BDO Northern Ireland put best foot forward for Slieve Donard Challenge

Leading advisory firm BDO Northern Ireland, are getting set to conquer Northern Ireland’s highest peak to support local charity Friends of the Cancer Centre and are encouraging local businesses and their employees to join them.

On Saturday, 2nd September, people from across Northern Ireland will take on Friends of the Cancer Centre’s Slieve Donard Challenge, sponsored by BDO Northern Ireland to raise vital funds to support the charity’s work.

The 850m climb to the summit of Slieve Donard will take in incredible views of the Mourne Mountains, where participants can capture breath-taking views of the County Down coast. There has already been significant interest across the NI Business community in completing this challenge.

Speaking about the challenge, BDO NI Partner, Carol Malcolmson, said:

“BDO NI have been supporting Friends of the Cancer Centre for the past year and have raised over £10,000 already. We are delighted to sponsor the Slieve Donard Challenge so that all of the money raised from the event can be used to support the charity’s amazing work with local people affected by cancer. I would encourage people from across Northern Ireland to gather work colleagues, family and friends, together and sign up for this year’s Slieve Donard Challenge.  Not only is it a great team-building event, but you will also be helping support local cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland.”

Friends of the Cancer Centre is one of the leading cancer charities in Northern Ireland working to support cancer patients, their families and carers through key projects in the areas of patient comfort and care, research and clinical care.  From small everyday comforts such as providing newspapers and magazines throughout the Cancer Centre, to investments of nearly £1 million into local cancer research; Friends of the Cancer Centre is at the forefront of local cancer care in Northern Ireland.  Over the next three years, the charity aims to raise at least £5 million to fund on-going and new projects which will continue to support local cancer patients.

Friends of the Cancer Centre’s Fundraising Manager, Claire Hogarth said:

“Our Slieve Donard Challenge is set to be a fantastic day and we really hope lots of people sign-up and join us as we take on the 850m climb to the top.  We are delighted to have our friends from BDO NI sponsoring the event, which means even more money will go towards supporting local cancer patients and their families.  As well as being a great personal challenge and giving you a real sense of achievement when you reach the top of Slieve Donard, each step will raise money for people across Northern Ireland who have been touched by cancer.”

Registration for the event is £10 per person and each person is asked to raise a minimum of £50 for the charity.  If you would like to sign-up for Friends of the Cancer Centre’s Slieve Donard Challenge, you can register online at www.friendsofthecancercentre.com or call Friends of the Cancer Centre on 028 9069 9393.
