The Power of Friends

Friendship is a powerful thing. Our friends are there to share the good times, as well as support us when things aren’t going so well.

For anyone with cancer, the power of friendship really comes into its own as friends and family are there by your side every step of the way. Whether it’s taking you to appointments or just popping round for a cuppa and a chat; friends have the ability to make a really hard time a little less difficult and scary. As a charity, we really believe in the power of friendship and if it wasn’t for all of our wonderful friends and supporters we wouldn’t be able to support thousands of people across Northern Ireland when they need it most.

Ahead of International Friendship Day on 30th July, we’re calling on you to join us as we celebrate the Power of Friends.

Over the next few weeks we will be showing you how your friendship is making a difference to our work and the patients we support. We also want to hear your stories of friendship and how a special someone, or maybe even the charity itself, has helped you through your own or a loved one’s cancer experience.

If you would like to share your story or even a picture of you and your friends, you can post to our Facebook page, tweet us @FriendsCCNI or tag us on Instagram friends_of_the_cancer_centre. Make sure you tell us why your friends are so important and use the hashtag #PowerofFriends.  We’ll then bring all the amazing pictures and stories together and share them with our friends and supporters.

Celebrate a friend- dedicate a cuppa to them!

As part of our Power of Friends campaign, we’re also giving you the chance to show your family and friends just how much they mean to you.

We all love a cuppa and nothing quite beats a cuppa with friends, so what better way to show that special someone how much they mean to you by dedicating a virtual cuppa to them on our website.

For a donation of £5, you can dedicate a very special cuppa to a very special friend.  Just click here, go to the Pay Pal button and follow the simple steps to complete your donation.  You’ll then be taken back to our website where you can add your own special message for your friend.  We’ll then add your message to our coffee table (please allow 48 hours for your message to appear on the website).  Once added to the coffee table, you can come back at any time to read your message – just type your name or your friend’s name in the search box on the page.

As well as showing a friend how important they are to you, you’ll also be supporting your friends here at Friends of the Cancer Center, as all money raised will be used to support local people affected by cancer.  So your £5 donation could buy 21 patients a cuppa while they wait on treatment.
