Rugby star Iain Henderson lines out for Friends of the Cancer Centre

Ireland and Ulster rugby star Iain Henderson has taken up position as patron of Friends of the Cancer Centre.

Iain took up the role ahead of his departure for the Rugby World Cup in Japan, where he had the opportunity to visit the Cancer Centre and see some of the charity’s work in action.  During his visit, Iain got to meet some of the staff funded by Friends of the Cancer Centre, as well as see how the charity’s work is making a difference to the lives of thousands of people across Northern Ireland.

Commenting on his new role with the charity, Iain said:

“I am delighted and very proud to be a patron of Friends of the Cancer Centre.

“It is an amazing local charity which supports thousands of people affected by cancer across Northern Ireland.  The extent of its work is incredible and it was a real privilege to see some of this work for myself, including meeting some of the vital staff funded by the charity.  I feel very proud that I can now play a part in supporting this great cause and I’m really looking forward to working with the charity and meeting more of the patients who rely on it at such a difficult time.” 

Welcoming Iain as patron of the charity, Colleen Shaw, chief executive of Friends of the Cancer Centre, said:

“We are thrilled that Iain has joined us as patron of Friends of the Cancer Centre.

“Friends of the Cancer Centre is a local charity and every penny raised for us stays in Northern Ireland to support local people.  Thanks to our incredible supporters, we have been able to enhance local cancer services and every day our work has a direct and positive impact on the lives of thousands of people when they need it most.  With Iain’s support we have an opportunity to raise greater awareness of our work, which in turn will enable us to support even more people affected by cancer.”

As patron, Iain will be working closely with Friends of the Cancer Centre to help raise awareness of our work.
