Our new partnership with Belfast International Airport takes off

Belfast International Airport has announced a two-year partnership Friends of the Cancer Centre.

Over the next two years, employees at Belfast International Airport are hoping to raise £50,000 to help support our work. In particular, money raised through the partnership will help fund financial grants for patients attending the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre for treatment. As well as taking part in a host of the charity’s fundraising events, employees will also come together to hold their own events on site at the airport.  Passengers will be able to show their support for the charity by making donations as they travel or park at the airport.

Corporate fundraising manager for Friends of the Cancer Centre, Ana Wilkinson, said:

“We are delighted to partner with Belfast International Airport throughout 2019 and 2020 and to work alongside its employees and passengers to raise funds and awareness to support local people affected by cancer. Money raised from the partnership will make an incredible difference to people when they really need that extra bit of support.  Many people face financial difficulties when going through cancer treatment and a grant from Friends of the Cancer Centre can help patients cover household bills, travel costs and much, much more.

“We are really looking forward to kicking off our partnership on World Cancer Day on 4th February when passengers will be invited to purchase a charity wristband.  Not only will money raised support local people, but we will be able to see how far across the world we can spread the message on one day.”

Looking ahead to the first year of fundraising for the charity, Deborah Harris, Public Relations and Marketing Manager at Belfast International Airport said:

“We are delighted to partner with Friends of the Cancer Centre. The charity have explained that it is often the little things that make a big difference and that as well as the physical and emotional costs of a cancer diagnosis, there can also be a financial cost due to increased travel expenses to and from the hospital for treatment and appointments. We are aiming to raise £50,000 to help provide financial grants to hundreds of cancer patients and are looking forward to engaging with Belfast International Airport staff and passengers to make a real and meaningful difference to local people.
