Our CNS Renee named Cancer Nurse of the Year 2017

We’re delighted to share the great news that our wonderful clinical nurse specialist for teenagers and young adults, Renée Reid was named joint winner of the Cancer Nurse of the Year Award at the Royal College of Nursing Northern Ireland’s glittering Nurse of the Year Awards.

The awards celebrate the excellence that exists throughout local nursing and Renée’s award recognises her dedication, committment and the difference she makes to the lives of young people with cancer. Friends of the Cancer Centre has been funding Renee’s post since 2013 and over the years we have seen the incredible impact she has made to the lives of young people and their families.

Commenting on her award win, Renée said:

“I am truly delighted to win RCN Cancer Nurse of the Year 2017 and to be among this year’s exceptional winners is a real honour. The awards once again highlight the vital contribution nursing makes to patients’ lives and the work being carried out by nurses across Northern Ireland is inspirational.

“Winning the award is a great personal achievement and reinforces the important role specialist nursing plays in caring for young people with cancer. However, my role and the difference it makes wouldn’t be possible without the support of my wonderful colleagues in the Cancer Centre and the funding and support I receive from Friends of the Cancer Centre and the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

“I feel honoured to win the award and I’ll also be sharing it with the young people and families who I’ve had the privilege of working with.”

Huge congratulations to Renée and to all of our supports a big thank you, as Renée’s post simply wouldn’t be possible without your support.
