Friends of the Cancer Centre’s Scholarship Winners 2016

Since 2008, Friends of the Cancer Centre has been investing in the training and development of the staff within the Cancer Centre through our Scholarship Programme, which provides funding for staff to attend training or educational courses.  These courses allow Cancer Centre staff to enhance their skills and be at the forefront of some of the latest developments in research, treatment techniques and patient care, which they can then use to benefit patients locally.

The Dr Gary McGowan Scholarship, the Pamela Lutton Scholarship, and the Pearl Ewing Scholarship have all been named and dedicated to late friends and colleagues in the Cancer Centre who themselves were champions of further career development and strived for professional excellence for the good of their patients.  We are delighted to announce the following winners of this year’s scholarships:

The Pamela Lutton Scholarship 2016 is open to therapy radiographers working in the Cancer Centre and will provide funding for a  training or educational course.  This year’s scholarship has been awarded to Stacey Murray and will enable Stacey to continue with her MSc in Advancing Practice.

The Dr Gary McGowan Scholarship 2016 is awarded to those staff in the Cancer Centre seeking to enhance their career through a training or educational course, or academic or training related travel.  This year’s scholarship has been awarded to Dr Aidan Cole, who has secured an academic training fellowship in advanced radiotherapy in the prestigious Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne.

The Pearl Ewing Scholarship 2016 is open to all health care professionals working in the Cancer Centre to fund or part fund a training or educational course.  This year’s scholarship has been awarded to social worker, Simon Darby who will embark on a cancer and exercise rehabilitation course which will be used in his work with young patients.
