Newry Canal Cycle - all you need to know

Our Newry Canal Cycle takes place this Saturday and ahead of the big event here is a reminder of some of the key information you need for the day.  If you have any queries regarding the event, or if you are no longer able to take part, please contact us as soon as possible by calling 028 9069 9393 or email [email protected]

We hope you have a great time taking part and thank you so much for supporting the charity. 

Registration on the day:  On the day of the event, Friends of the Cancer Centre’s registration point will be located at the Newry canal, Meadow Lane, Portadown and will be open from 11am – 11.30am sharp. There will be a banner signposting you to the registration area.  Once you have registered, you are free to start the cycle.

Route: There are two routes available – a 21 mile route which takes cyclist to Poyntzpass before returning to Portadown and a 38 mile route which takes cyclists to Newry before returning.  It is entirely up to you which route you take part in, but please let us know on the day which route you plan to cycle. To help you, a will receive a map of the route when registering.

Sponsorship: If you have collected any sponsorship money please bring it with you and hand it to our charity representatives when you register.   This challenge is only open to people who have registered, paid their registration fee and are raising sponsorship for the charity.  Anyone who has not done this, will not be allowed to take part as they will not be covered under our insurance.  

Refreshments:  There will be complimentary refreshments at the midway point at Poyntzpass which you can avail off before heading on towards Newry or returning to Portadown.

Clothing: Please come well prepared for the challenge and, as its Northern Ireland, for possible changeable weather conditions on the day.  This includes bringing waterproofs, sun cream and wearing a cycling helmet at all times whilst cycling.

Photos: If you are taking photos during the cycle we would love to see them and share them with our supporters on social media.  You can send your pictures to us via Whatspp on 079007 82492 or email them to us at [email protected].  By sending us your photos you give us permission to share them on our website and social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Share and tag: taking on such a big challenge and doing it for charity is a really great thing so why not let your friends what you’re up to and why!  When you check in or upload your pictures to facebook, Twitter or Instagram tag us and use the hashtags #NewryCanalCycle #TeamFriends
