Meeting of minds as Magee Psychology Society team up with Friends of the Cancer Centre

The Psychology Society at the University of Ulster’s Magee campus has teamed up with Friends of the Cancer Centre as its charity partner for the upcoming academic year.

During the partnership the students in the society will organise a host of fundraising activities, which begin during Freshers’ week in September culminating in a gala ball in February 2016.  All money raised from the partnership will be donated to Friends of the Cancer Centre.

Looking forward to the year ahead, treasurer of the society, Victoria Thompson, said:

“When deciding on a charity to choose for this academic year, Friends of the Cancer Centre was our first and only choice.  One of our committee members has sadly lost a friend, John Stewart to cancer and they were overwhelmed by the great encouragement and support John and his family received from the charity.

“The Psychology Society recognises the vital work Friends of the Cancer Centre does to support cancer patients across Northern Ireland. Cancer does not discriminate and most people have been touched in some way by this disease. We want to ensure that the charity is fully recognised and help them continue its great work helping patients and families when they need it most.

Welcoming the great new partnership Claire Hogarth, Friends of the Cancer Centre’s fundraising manager, said:

“We’re delighted that the Psychology Society has chosen to support Friends of the Cancer Centre and we’re really looking forward to working with them throughout the year on their fundraising drive.  We hope that all students from the Magee campus get behind the society and help them raise as much money as possible, as every penny will make a very big difference to the lives of patients and their families right across Northern Ireland.”

We’re always in need of volunteers to join our fabulous fundraising groups, help at events or in their local community, so if you have time to spare and would like to get involved, please get in touch to find out more.
