Investing in the future of nursing

One of the central aspects of Friends of the Cancer Centre is our commitment to providing patients with the best care possible by funding vital specialist nurses.

Our Clinical Nurse Specialist Programme funds nursing posts within the Cancer Centre and at present we fund three nurses in the areas of breast, lymphoma, and teenagers and young adults.  We are committed to building on this in the coming years by funding even more nurses for a range of cancer types.

Friends of the Cancer Centre is also investing in the training and development of local nurses through its pilot Clinical Nurse Specialist Development Programme.  The training programme, the first of its kind in Northern Ireland, is providing senior nurse’s in the Cancer Centre with the expert and specific training they need to become a clinical nurse specialist.  This advance training will allow them to apply for future CNS posts when they become available and to start the new post immediately without having to undergo training when in post.

The programme was recgnised at the 2015 Belfast Trust Chairman’s Awards, picking up second place in the Learning and Development category.

We’re always in need of volunteers to join our fabulous fundraising groups, help at events or in their local community, so if you have time to spare and would like to get involved, please get in touch to find out more.
