Since partnering with Friends of the Cancer Centre in May 2022, Allen & Overy (A&O) Belfast has raised an incredible £30,000 to help support local patients and their families whose lives have been impacted by a cancer diagnosis.

The money has been raised through a range of fundraising activities, including colleagues taking part in our annual events such as Take on the Tower Superhero Abseil and the Slieve Donard Challenge. Colleagues at A&O Belfast also held their own events, including bake-off competitions, raffles and a Christmas quiz amongst others.

Colleagues at A&O Belfast have also been generous with their time, with staff volunteering at events such as the Bangor Castle Walk, Festival Brass Concert and street collections, as well as helping to raise awareness of the charity and empowering people to be more cancer aware.

Pauline Wylie, Chair of A&O Belfast’s Social Impact Committee said:

“We are committed to supporting our local community, giving back and making a difference. We planned to raise £25,000 during our two-year partnership, but thanks to the support from colleagues we are thrilled to have exceeded this target, with three months of our partnership still to go!

“Sadly, many of us have been touched by cancer, and our partnership with Friends of the Cancer Centre has given us a greater appreciation of the demand for services, and the support required, by both cancer patients and their families. The charity makes a real and meaningful difference for people across Northern Ireland, and that has inspired us to go the extra mile.”

Commenting on how important the support of A&O Belfast is to the charity, Friends of the Cancer Centre’s CEO, Ana Wilkinson, said:

“Friends of the Cancer Centre relies on the generosity of local companies like A&O Belfast, and their employees, to enable us to support thousands of families across Northern Ireland every year. By raising funds, they are helping the charity support local cancer patients in a number of ways – through the provision of specialist nursing care, financial grants, complementary therapies, vital research and much more. As well as this, a huge amount of awareness has been raised of the signs and symptoms of breast and testicular cancer, as the firm has shared Breast Bud and Talking Balls cancer awareness tools, empowering people to check themselves regularly and signposting to additional support if it is needed.

“We are incredibly grateful for all of the support received to date and look forward to supporting their fundraising efforts in the coming months.”
