Coleraine Student's Union get teeth into charity food challenge

The Ulster University Student’s Union in Coleraine is getting set to get their teeth into this year’s Freshers’ Week with their very own Man vs Food challenge, all to raise funds for Friends of the Cancer Centre.

The team at the student’s union will be offering freshers’ the chance to be named Man vs Food Champion 2015 when they hold their fundraising event on Thursday, 1st October.  The challenge consists of participants going head to head to eat as much pizza as they can within an allotted time.  The last student standing will be crowned the champion.  All money raised by the hungry competitors will be donated to Friends of the Cancer Centre, which works to support local people with cancer.

Vice President of the Student’s Union in Coleraine, Emma Bonner, said:

“We wanted to offer new students something fun to get their teeth into during their first week on campus and the food challenge is a great way to get people talking and involved with student life.  That’s why we’re calling on all new students to take part in our Man vs Food challenge and to help us raise as much money as we can for our chosen charity, Friends of the Cancer Centre.  We chose Friends of the Cancer Centre to represent the students, past and present, who have been affected by cancer.  We know that all the money raised will be used to help those that are affected by this condition and also support the great work that this charity carries out.”

Claire Hogarth, Friends of the Cancer Centre’s fundraising manager, said:

“We’re delighted that the students of Coleraine have chosen to support Friends of the Cancer Centre and we wish them all the best with all their fundraising and ask that all students enjoy the event and raise as much money as possible for the charity.”
