Service update: complementary therapy and exercise classes

Monday, 21 June 2021

We know that dealing with a cancer diagnosis can have a huge impact on your personal wellbeing, which is why we proudly support a range of services, helping cancer patients and their carers to build back their physical, social and emotional health.  Whilst COVID-19 has impacted some of these services, they are still available to help you and your loved ones.  Find out more below.

Complementary therapy

The four complementary therapists funded by the charity provide vital support in helping people with dealing with side effects of their treatment, improving their physical and emotional wellbeing. Our therapists can offer massage, reflexology and aromatherapy treatments for both inpatients at the Belfast City and Royal Victoria Hospitals and outpatients at the Macmillan Support & Information Centre. These treatments can help to alleviate stress and anxiety, and gives patients and carers a chance to take some time for themselves, away from hospital appointments.

Face-to-face therapies have now resumed for both inpatients and outpatients. For more information or to book an appointment, call the Belfast Trust Cancer Support Services team on 028 9615 0077.

Exercise and relaxation classes

We also proudly fund a programme of exercise and relaxation classes, again helping patients and carers to take time to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. Although unable to facilitate face-to-face classes for the past year, our yoga, Pilates and tai chi instructors have instead offered live classes each weekday morning, available via the Belfast Trust Cancer Support Facebook page. The classes will soon be moving to closed groups on Zoom, which will mean the instructors can give personalised guidance to participants, as well as allowing participants to ask questions and interact with the rest of the group.

For further details about the exercise and relaxation classes, please contact the Belfast Trust Cancer Support Services team on 028 9615 0077.
