Take on the Tower Abseil - what you need to know

Wednesday, 11 April 2018

The Take on the Tower Abseil is just a few days away and before you grab your cape there are a few things you need to know so you are all set to take on the 190ft abseil.  All participants should have received an email with final instructions including a time for registering on the day.  If you have not received an email, please email clairehogarth@friendsofthecancercentre.com and we will be in touch.  Or, check out the list below for a reminder.

Registration: On the day of the abseil, participants are asked to make their way to the registration desk situated on the dining room floor (D) of the main tower block.  Lifts are located on the ground floor and signs will be in place to show you the way.  Once you arrive on D floor, you will be greeted by staff from the charity.  At this point, you will be able to hand over any sponsorship money you have.  Once registered, you will make your way to The Ennis Room where staff from our event provider, Life will meet you.  They will give you a safety briefing and kit you out with gloves, helmet and harness before bringing you and the rest of your group up onto the roof in preparation for your abseil.

Clothing: Please wear comfortable clothing (not tight), tuck in shirts etc and remove any bulky jackets.  This year's abseil is superhero themed but you must be able to put on a harness, helmet and gloves over or along with your costume.  Pockets must be empty or zipped closed and any sharp or bulky items removed.  Remove all jewellery and please tie hair back.

Photography: a photographer will be available on the day and will offer participants the opportunity to purchase photos for £10 by downloading a link.  Staff from our event provider, Life will give participants further details on this on the day. Photography is provided by Life and is not associated with the charity.

Spectators: will not be permitted into the kitting out, briefing areas or on the roof.  The best vantage point to see you abseil will be at the corner of the Belfast City Hospital and Cancer Centre. We ask participants, family and friends to be mindful that this is a busy hospital site and to please be sensitive to patients and their families throughout the event.

Mobile phones: Phones must not be brought up to the roof, please leave these with a friend or family member, failing that, you may leave your phone in the kitting out area at your own risk.

Medical form:  if you have not already sent your medical form in, please complete and bring with you.  If you use an inhaler or require any medication, please bring it with you.  Participants are requested not to take alcohol or any drugs which might impair your ability to abseil prior to event.  The safety officer may refuse to allow any individual to abseil and is not required to give reasons.
