Eircom NI raise over £12,000

Leading Belfast-based communications provider, eircom Business Solutions NI, raised over £12,767 in 2014 for Friends of the Cancer Centre.
"Our partnership with Friends of the Cancer Centre has been a tremendous success with the charity being close to many of our staff members’ hearts. The team enjoyed the various fundraising activities throughout the year, finishing with a Christmas Hamper raffle in December,” said Darren Lemon, General Manager of eircom Business Solutions Manager.
Fundraising activities ranged from themed coffee mornings to raffles and auctions and included a staff quiz night, Guess the Baby competition and a staff lunch. The company takes a unique approach to Corporate Social Responsibility which is owned and driven entirely by the staff themselves - employees volunteer and manage CSR activities with a high degree of pride, energy and enthusiasm.
According to Darren, “Our quiz night and Belfast Marathon relay proved the most success in terms of monies raised but those who provided voluntary services found they achieved the greatest gratification. It was great to be able to raise so much money and provide hands-on support for such a fantastic cause.”
Colleen Shaw, chief executive of Friends of the Cancer Centre, said “The team at eircom have been wonderful and we were completely overwhelmed by how they really got behind the charity. I would like to thank them for the generous amount they raised. But as important as their fundraising and financial support has been, they have also been able to offer us their time, which for a small organisation like ours is priceless.”
A total of 68 hours of office support as well as IT advice was provided to the Friends of the Cancer Centre during the course of the year by various members of the eircom team.
“The team were kind enough to let us tap into their knowledge and expertise in IT by offering us great advice and guidance, from website development to Sage training from our accounts department.” Said Colleen Shaw, “We also had members of the eircom team volunteer their time throughout the year by coming to our office to assist with a variety of vital tasks, including putting together fundraising packs, packing envelopes and labelling collection buckets. This saved the charity money that was used in provision of front line services. This is what made the partnership so unique and valuable to us."
