To mark the fifth anniversary of the passing of much-loved local businessman John Mulholland, John Mulholland Motors has announced that the company and its customers have now raised an incredible £163,000 for Friends of the Cancer Centre.

The award winning car dealership in Randalstown has been a proud partner of Friends of the Cancer Centre since 2019, raising money to help fund vital nursing hours, which support thousands of local people every year. As well as the company’s employees taking part in a range of the charity’s fundraising events, the company makes a £10 donation for every car sold and £2 for every car serviced.  The family owned company has a very personal reason for supporting the charity, as owner John Mulholland was diagnosed with kidney cancer in June 2018.  Sadly John passed away in August 2019, but his family and all of the colleagues at John Mulholland Motors have continued to support the charity over the past five years and continue his legacy in order to make a difference to local families.

Commenting on the partnership with Friends of the Cancer Centre, Shona Mulholland, managing director of John Mulholland Motors, said:

It is really hard to believe that it has been five years since Dad departed. Five years since he walked through the showroom doors with his cheeky smile and zest for life.

“That said, the light to be found in his tragic loss is that we have been able to carry on his commitment of ‘supporting those who support you’. We are very proud that over the last five years, we have raised over £163,000 to support the work of Friends of the Cancer Centre, which has helped support over 6,520 hours of nursing care, which I know will make an incredible difference to so many people.

“We miss Dad more than we can articulate, but hopefully our actions of continuing to fundraise for such a worthwhile cause is in some way keeping his legacy alive.”

For over 39 years, Friends of the Cancer Centre has been dedicated to making a real and meaningful difference to cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland.  The charity works to enhance the quality of patient care and support by funding additional nurses, supporting local research, raising cancer awareness and providing practical support, such as financial grants, which help families through a difficult time.

Commenting on how important the support of John Mulholland Motors is to the charity, Friends of the Cancer Centre’s chief executive, Ana Wilkinson, said:

“The sum raised by John Mulholland Motors is absolutely incredible and we are very grateful for the support and generosity of the team and their wonderful customers.

“As we mark the fifth anniversary of John’s passing, his legacy of commitment to supporting local families affected by cancer is reflected through his family, friends, customers and colleagues at John Mulholland Motors. It is clear that John inspired others through his own courage and strength. Everyone at Friends of the Cancer Centre is incredibly grateful for this support, which makes a difference to thousands of local families every year. I hope the team are incredibly proud.”
