Helping patients stay in touch with loved ones

Staying in touch with loved ones has never been more important and for patients in hospital receiving cancer treatment and care, staying in touch with family and friends at a time when they can’t see them in person is a vital source of support, company and comfort.

However, not all patients have access to a smart phone or tablet, making it more difficult for them to stay in touch or see their loved ones via a video call. So to help, Friends of the Cancer Centre has purchased 10 tablets for the wards in the Cancer Centre. The tablets now give patients, many of whom are very ill, the opportunity to stay in touch with family and friends at a time when they need it most.

Commenting on how the charity’s work is changing in response to Covid-19, Chief Executive of Friends of the Cancer Centre, said:

“Our work has been changing in light of coronavirus, but our commitment to supporting people with cancer when they really need it has not. We are proud to support patients and their families through these very difficult times, even if it is something as simple as supplying the technology to help them stay in touch with family and friends from the comfort and safety of their hospital bed. This, like everything we do, would not be possible without the vital support of people who donate and raise money for the charity.

“The support of the public over the years has allowed us to fund this type of work at a time when it is really needed. On behalf of everyone at the charity, thank you to our supporters as this is your support in action.”
