Chat raises £45,000 for Friends of the Cancer Centre

CHAT coffee house and newsagents has been supporting Friends of the Cancer Centre since the Cancer Centre opened in 2006 and during this time, raised a phenomenal £45,000 for the charity.

The team at CHAT chose to support Friends of the Cancer Centre when they witnessed the charity’s work with patients attending the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital. Over the last thirteen years, CHAT employees have taken part in the charity’s events, such the Dragon Boat Race, Slieve Donard Challenge, Shorts and Shades Walk, and Wear Something Festive as well as volunteering their time. Donations have also been made directly by the owners of CHAT and from CHAT’s wonderful customers who include patients and their families as well as hospital employees.

Commenting on what motivates the team at CHAT to support Friends of the Cancer Centre, Darren Stronge, Director said,

“The Cancer Centre is a special place and we feel very privileged to have served CHAT customers for over 13 years. Hospital staff and patients alike get to know our team and we often receive thank you cards to acknowledge our part in making them feel welcome when they come to the Cancer Centre. Our team are dedicated to supporting the work of Friends of the Cancer Centre, as we have witnessed year after year, the difference the charity makes in so many ways to people from across Northern Ireland who come to the Cancer Centre in Belfast for treatment, care and support.”

Friends of the Cancer Centre relies on the generosity of the local business community and all money donated stays in Northern Ireland, directly benefitting patients and their families.

Corporate Fundraising Manager for Friends of the Cancer Centre, Ana Wilkinson, said:

“The partnership and indeed friendship with the team at CHAT is fantastic as year after year, they raise funds and awareness, making a huge difference to the lives of patients and their families right across Northern Ireland.”
